Akon would like the world to believe he is younger that what he really is because a 35 year-old-rapper would sell less. Despite having a birth certificate from an hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, Akon says he doesn’t know his real age. Akon says he doesn't know how old he is, and he likes it. "All it's going to do is depress me," Akon said in a recent interview. "I don't want to know I'm getting older. Then I'll start to think about getting checkups and insurance. I don't want that."Numerous reports have put his age somewhere between 25 to 35 years old. In 2006 he said he was 25. Now he claims he’s 31 because he says his birth certificate says he was born on April 16, 1977. According to The Smoking Gun, "By all indications, he was born April 16, 1973. He is like the Catherine Zeta Jones of rappers, no one can pinpoint their ages. The AP writes:
Some have accused Akon of trying to push back his age. But the singer, who was born in the United States but spent his early life in Senegal, where his family is from, says he never knew it. Akon says when people ask, he just gives him a figure that comes to mind. Right now, he says he feels 21.
"In Africa ... age is not important over there. They don't care. People only focus on it here (America) and in Europe," said Akon.
At what age do you have to be to be half retarded? That’s how old Akon should say he is. He has a birth certificate. It’s not like his mother gave birth to him while running from a lion in Senegal. His age is recorded. On paper. By the US government. The dude has a damn passport. So, from now on, when reporters ask how old he is and he says something stupid like, “I don’t know. To me, age is just a number. Let’s say I’m 21 because I feel 21 right now,” the reporter should whip out a copy of his birth certificate and be like, “What does that date say right there. Yes, very good. 1973. Now subtract this year from that year. What do you get? 35. Very good. And how old does that make you? Sound it out. Thir-ty Five,” Basically, patronize him until he decides to kick your ass. At least Akon know he was born on April 16, now he just have figure out what year.
In Akon's defense, he does not have a great track record with ages. In the pictures below you will see 30 something man year old dirty dancing a 14 year old girl claiming to be 15 years in the now infamous Akon Trinidad and Tobago incident. Akon drew criticism for having on-stage simulated sex with Danah (Deena) Alleyne, a preacher's fifteen-year-old daughter, at a club in Trinidad and Tobago, as part of a fake contest, despite the club's claim to have a 21 years and over age limit. The incident was filmed by Akon's crew and later uploaded to the Internet. The man said it himself, age is not important to Akon. Click on pictures to enlarge.
Again in Akon's defense, this girl does tend to lie about her age. Yeah, she lies often about her age just like Akon. The pic below is of her Myspace page around the time od the incident.
